Christopher Andrew Rohrbeck was born and raised in Chicago, IL

With the original intent of starting a career in the fine arts, Chris began studying film production and media analysis during high-school through the advanced arts program at Gallery 37.

During that time, Chris began working with Governor Pat Quinn of Illinois in his referendum campaign for mayoral term limits, Take Charge Chicago, producing media in support of the effort.

After graduating high-school, Chris began studying directing at Columbia College Chicago, where he pursued a major in Cinema Arts & Television and minor in Biology (purely for the love of science).

Throughout college, Chris volunteered as a science educator at the Field Museum of Natural History and even directed and produced educational content for some of their scientists. Chris continued producing educational content on evolution after a paleontology expedition to the Petrified Forest National Park.

Primarily though, Chris continued to write and direct throughout school, expanding a catalogue of short films production-centric classes, including a film funded by the college and shot on their state-of-the-art sound stage through the  school's Advanced Practicum program. Chris' junior-year film premiered at the large venue at the historic Music Box Theatre after making it into CIFF's CineYouth Film Festival

Chris spent his last semester of school in Los Angeles, where he interned at Gunpowder & Sky and Partizan, an independent film production company and Partizan a commercial production house from Michel Gondry. At both companies he was later hired as a production assistant.

During the pandemic, Chris put his biology background to work by becoming a Health & Safety Supervisor at FX Networks, playing integral leadership roles on shows like 'DAVE,' 'Reservation Dogs,' and 'Kindred.'

At the same time, Chris was co-heading a year-long film collective called Project 321 with his work and life partner Bianca Dovarro, which challenged young artists from around the globe to write, direct, and edit a short film in under a month. At the year's end Chris had successfully produced 12 short films for each month of the 2020 year, encompassing narrative, documentary, live-action, animation, and foreign-language films.

Chris current works as a coordinator at Stink Films, a commercial and music video production company.

Chris will soon be releasing his latest fantasy short, 'The Voice Said Joan' and seeking fundraising for his feature 'Cavewoman.'

Conversations with Christopher Rohrbeck and Bianca Dovarro

My love for film began with house cats and home movie cameras. After a couple of high schools film classes, I sought to turn a hobby into a career through a Cinema Arts & TV degree at Columbia College Chicago. I concentrated my studies on Directing and produced several modestly-successful student shorts. I would describe my work as genre-fluid.
